Turn on call forwarding
This sends the calls you can't answer to your RingKept receptionist. Your phone still rings first. Only unanswered and busy calls forward. It takes about a minute.
It's in your "line is live" email and at the top of your dashboard. The codes below fill in automatically.
Pick your phone carrier
Verizon
Open your phone's keypad, dial this, and press Call:
Wait for the confirmation tone or message, then hang up. To turn it off later, dial *73.
You can also set it in the My Verizon app under call forwarding. Prepaid Verizon lines have to use the code.
AT&T or T-Mobile
Open your phone's keypad, dial this exactly (including the * and # symbols), and press Call:
You'll see a message confirming forwarding is on for busy, unanswered, and unreachable calls. To turn it off later, dial ##004#.
This also works for most plans that run on these networks, such as Cricket (AT&T) and Mint or Metro (T-Mobile).
Other carriers and office phones
- Office or internet phone systems (RingCentral, Google Voice, Grasshopper, Ooma, 8x8, and similar): open the app's call handling or forwarding settings and choose forward when unanswered or busy, to your RingKept number.
- Traditional landlines: call your phone company and ask them to turn on "busy and no-answer call forwarding" to your RingKept number.
- Other mobile carriers: try the AT&T/T-Mobile code first. If it doesn't confirm, ask your carrier for "conditional call forwarding." Some prepaid plans don't include it.
Test it
From a different phone, call your business number and let it ring without answering. After about 20 seconds your RingKept receptionist should pick up. The call then appears in your dashboard.
Good to know
- On iPhone, don't use Settings, Phone, Call Forwarding. That forwards every call, so your phone would never ring. Use the codes above instead.
- Changing phones, SIM cards, or plans can switch forwarding off. If calls stop showing up in RingKept, dial the code again.
- Stuck? Email ringkept@yahoo.com or reply to your "line is live" email, and we'll walk you through it.
